The Achilles Brace is a redesign of an athletic brace. It utilizes the concept of the calf muscle as a clutch-and-spring mechanism that retains kinetic energy in normal gait, but refocuses this concept on increasing speed and athleticism of the user.
The mechanics of the brace came from a prototype developed by a CMU biomechatronics lab. Their process utilized gait timing to store energy in parallel with the user's calf and achilles. This project was focused on implementing the mechanics for athletic use, increasing the agility of the user.
